It provides basic protection against the cost of health care, but it doesn’t cover all medical expenses or the cost of most long-term care. WebUnlike many private sector retirees for whom retiree health insurance becomes the secondary payer after Medicare once they stop working, FEHBP retiree coverage can continue to act as a primary insurance and is as good as the coverage available to active working federal employees.
