The engine produces an output power of 410 kW (550 hp) to drive the three-bladed Hartzell HC-B3TN-3D aluminum propeller. The propeller is equipped with anti-icing facilities and can rotate at a constant speed of 2,200 rpm. On 4 May 1959, the first prototype, powered by a 254 kW (340 shp) piston engine, made its maiden flight. In early May 1961, the first Turbo Porter, powered by a Turbomeca Astazou II turboprop engine, performed its initial flight.
